A significant figure on the borderline between the Old Testaments is the Honorable Forerunner, St. John the Baptist. His life and manner of living remind us of the Prophets of the Old Testament, but at the same time he also brings to mind ascetics of the desert who lived in the Church. Thus St. John the Baptist links the prophetic life with the apostolic and monastic life.
