This collection of essays addresses the question: What does it mean to be the Church? Focusing on the theme "One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church: Ecclesiology and the Gathered Community," the presentations derive from the Fourth Consultation on Orthodox and Wesleyan Spirituality convened at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in January 2006, sponsored by the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church and the faculty of St. Vladimir's. Presenters, using doctrines and methodology from their distinct traditions, further consider the place of the church in a person's spiritual life, including the concepts of obedience, discipline, and authority in the community.
